Ivanka Trump draws attention in Tokyo

November 5, 2017

Tokyo- Ivanka Trump, U.S. President Donald Trump's eldest daughter and adviser, received a considerable amount of attention during her stay in Japan until Saturday that preceded her father's Asia tour.

Since her arrival on Thursday, the Japanese media has reported about her in great detail, including what she wore, ate and stayed.

On Friday night, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe received her for a dinner party, an unusual treatment, at a "ryokan" Japanese-style inn in Tokyo.

Abe touched on his first meeting with her father, then president-elect, in November last year, in which Ivanka also participated. Abe said he is very delighted that he has built a strong relationship of trust with her father over the year.

According to Japanese government officials, Abe and Ivanka discussed a wide range of topics on Japan-U.S. relations, including issues surrounding women, as well as on their families and hobbies.

During the dinner, Abe and Ivanka were joined by U.S. Ambassador to Japan William Hagerty and his wife, Chrissy, as well as Japanese Ambassador to the United States Kenichiro Sasae.

The U.S. first daughter was welcomed with a great deal of hospitality. Abe himself greeted her at the entrance of the inn.

Earlier on Friday, Ivanka had lunch with Foreign Minister Taro Kono. She also met with the internal affairs minister Seiko Noda and welfare minister Katsunobu Kato.

A reason for the unusual treatment was her strong presence in the White House. Diplomatic sources say she influences her father's decision-making.

As the first daughter, Ivanka has supported her father in summit diplomacy. She also made it in the list of U.S. magazine Time's 100 Most Influential People.

On Instagram, where she has 3.9 million followers, Ivanka received numerous comments welcoming her when she posted a photograph of her taken when she arrived at Narita International Airport in Chiba Prefecture, east of Tokyo, on Thursday. Jiji Press
