Japan aims to make computer available to every student
June 25, 2019
Tokyo--Japan aims to make a computer terminal available to every student at school by around fiscal 2025, the education ministry said Tuesday.
The target is included in the ministry's new plan to improve the educational environment through the use of advanced technologies.
A ministry survey in March 2018 found that computers were distributed at a rate of one terminal per 5.6 students on average at public elementary to high schools across Japan.
By prefecture, Saga performed best at a rate of one terminal per 1.8 students, while Saitama marked the worst rate of one terminal per 7.9 students.
To increase educational-purpose computers at school further, the ministry's plan showed examples of how such computers can be procured at lower costs.
The ministry will also consider allowing students to bring their own computers to school. Jiji Press
