June 25, 2018
Tokyo- The Japanese government appointed six women, including astronaut Naoko Yamazaki, on Monday as ambassadors to support women in science and technology fields.
The government will help women play greater roles in such fields, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe told the six women in a meeting at his office.
"The views of women are crucial for creating innovations in society. But the number of women in science and technology fields is still very small," he said.
The meeting was joined by Seiko Noda, minister in charge of women's empowerment. "We want them to showcase role models for children across the country," Noda told reporters after the meeting while referring to the ambassadors. Jiji Press
