Japan, China to Cooperate in Infrastructure Exports
June 8, 2018
Tokyo- The Japanese government on Thursday decided to work with the Chinese government to enhance cooperation among companies of the two countries to increase infrastructure exports to emerging economies.
At a meeting of a panel on infrastructure export strategies, the Japanese government decided to include the policy in a revised version of the strategies.
The two countries agreed to strengthen private-sector cooperation in the field of infrastructure business at a bilateral summit last month.
The bilateral cooperation will mainly cover projects to build large facilities, such as railroads and ports, in other countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
The scope of the cooperation is believed to include China's Belt and Road initiative. The government will determine specific projects at meetings of the panel and a planned public-private committee.
Japan was negative about such infrastructure business cooperation as it saw problems with Chinese technologies.
Now Tokyo has changed its mind thanks to improvements in Chinese technologies and bilateral relations. The government hopes that Japanese companies will win many orders in projects led by the Chinese side, officials said. Jiji Press
