Japan closely watching Iranian situation: Suga
May 9, 2019
Tokyo--The Japanese government is closely watching the Iranian situation after Teheran announced partial suspension of commitments under the 2015 international nuclear deal, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga has said.
"We take note of the explanation that the Iranian government's decision does not mean that the country will withdraw from the nuclear agreement," Suga, Japan's top government spokesman, told a press conference on Wednesday. "We'll closely watch the developments."
Suga said Japan has consistently supported the nuclear deal and believes it would be important for Iran to play a constructive role for the stability of the Middle East.
"By utilizing our traditionally friendly relations with Iran, Japan wants to work on resolving the problem through dialogue toward peace and stability in the region," Suga said. Jiji Press
