Japan Coast Guard to Seek Record Budget for Tighter Security

Tokyo- The Japan Coast Guard will make a budget request of 233,871 million yen for fiscal 2019 to strengthen maritime security, a record high for the second consecutive year, it was leaned Wednesday.
The government agency hopes to build a large patrol vessel in order to boost security in territorial waters off the Senkaku Islands in the southernmost Japan prefecture of Okinawa and to be prepared for any simultaneous occurrences of multiple major accidents or incidents.
It also aims to acquire a jet and a survey airplane to strengthen marine monitoring and investigations. Jiji Press
