Japan Creates Cyberattack Severity Scale
July 25, 2018
Tokyo- The Japanese government on Wednesday created a five-level severity scale to gauge the degree of damage from cyberattacks on people's lives.
The scale was adopted at a meeting of the government's Cyber Security Strategy Headquarters, headed by Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga.
The government plans to use the scale to consider response to cyberattacks and share information about the seriousness of developing situations widely among government and business entities.
The scale classifies the severity of cyberattacks into five levels, between Level 4, the most serious situation in which tremendous damage has been inflicted, and Level zero, a situation where no influence has been seen.
The government also drew up a final draft on the country's new cybersecurity strategy including closer government-business-academia cooperation, planning to adopt it at a cabinet meeting Friday. Jiji Press
