Japan Extends SDF Staff Dispatch to U.N. Mission in S. Sudan

Tokyo- The Japanese government on Friday decided to extend the dispatch period for Self-Defense Force staff stationed at the headquarters of the U.N. Mission in South Sudan, or UNMISS, by one year.
The dispatch, based on the law on cooperation with U.N. peacekeeping operations, is now set to continue until the end of May 2019.
The decision was made following a U.N. resolution to extend the mandate of UNMISS until March 2019.
"Japan will continue to make its contributions as a proactive contributor to peace," Defense Minister Itsunori Onodera told a press conference. Jiji Press
