Japan Eyes Forum on Use of Public Facilities for Tourism
May 25, 2018
Tokyo- The Japanese government said Thursday that it will set up a public-private forum to promote the use of public facilities as tourism resources.
"The government will work as one" on the matter, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga told a news conference.
The government has already selected about 100 facilities with potential to attract tourists.
The list includes the Maritime Self-Defense Force's Kure district in Hiroshima Prefecture, western Japan, and the emergency evacuation passage of the Tokyo Bay Aqua-Line expressway.
The government will provide information to travel agencies and other companies and have discussions to explore the effective use of such facilities.
Japan has opened to the public the State Guest House in Tokyo, which is used to welcome foreign leaders and other dignitaries, and Inui Street in the Imperial Palace. Jiji Press
