Japan, Fiji Vow Cooperation for Free, Open Indo-Pacific Region

Tokyo- Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and his Fiji counterpart, Voreqe Bainimarama, agreed Wednesday that their countries will closely cooperate under a Japan-led initiative to make the Indo-Pacific region free and open.
At their meeting in Tokyo, Abe said Japan will provide 300 million yen in grant aid to the Pacific island nation for strengthening its maritime security and disaster prevention capabilities.
"Japan will fully cooperate for sustainable development in Fiji," Abe told a joint press conference following the meeting.
Bainimarama said his country will continue to work with Japan on key regional and global issues.
Abe and Bainimarama also agreed to cooperate to ensure the success of a meeting of leaders of Japan and Pacific island nations set for Friday and Saturday in Fukushima Prefecture, northeastern Japan. Jiji Press
