May 27, 2018
St. Petersburg, Russia- Visiting Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and French President Emmanuel Macron on Friday agreed to maintain pressure on North Korea.
They shared the view that the pressure should be kept in place to realize complete, verifiable and irreversible denuclearization of North Korea.
Abe and Macron also confirmed the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation to implement the Japanese-proposed strategy for a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
The two leaders agreed to advance the two countries' cooperation in the field of maritime security, including by carrying out joint drills between the Self-Defense Forces and France's military.
Macron briefed Abe on his proposal for a new deal that would follow the recent U.S. withdrawal from the 2015 Iran nuclear agreement. Abe expressed support for such a deal. Jiji Press
