September 3, 2017
TOKYO- The Japanese government has confirmed that North Korea conducted a nuclear test, Foreign Minister Taro Kono told reporters on Sunday.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said that Japan would have to lodge a strong protest if North Korea is confirmed to have carried out a nuclear test, noting that a nuclear test by the reclusive country can never be tolerated.
Abe instructed relevant government agencies to gather and analyze information and provide the public with accurate information, and to cooperate with related countries, including the United States, South Korea, China and Russia, in responding to the situation.
