Japan January jobless rate rises to 2.4 pct

Tokyo--Japan's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stood at 2.4 pct in January, up 0.2 percentage point from the previous month, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications said Friday.

The number of jobless people increased by 120,000 to 1.64 million, the ministry said.

Separately, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare said the ratio of job openings to job seekers in January stood at 1.49, down 0.08 point from the previous month. Jiji Press
