Japan January jobless rate rises to 2.5 percent

Tokyo--Japan's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stood at 2.5 pct in January, up 0.1 percentage point from the previous month, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications said Friday.
The number of jobless people increased by 80,000 from the previous month to 1.72 million after seasonal adjustment, the ministry also said.
Separately, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare said the ratio of job openings to job seekers in January stood at 1.63, unchanged from the previous month. Jiji Press
