Kyonan, Chiba Pref.--The Japanese government is considering designating Typhoon Faxai as an extremely severe disaster warranting additional state support for affected areas, a senior official said Monday.
"We've gathered all information available to consider whether to designate (the typhoon) as an extremely severe disaster," Ryota Takeda told reporters during his visit to Kyonan, Chiba Prefecture.
The 15th typhoon of the year made landfall in the Kanto region, including Chiba and Tokyo, on Sept. 9. Kyonan is among the heavily damaged cities.
"We'll also discuss assistance from various angles," Takeda said.
"We'll do all we can so that all affected residents can restore their normal lives as soon as possible," he also said. Jiji Press
