Vladivostok, Russia- Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Mongolian President Khaltmaa Battulga on Tuesday confirmed the importance of fully implementing U.N. Security Council sanctions resolutions against North Korea to realize its denuclearization.
During their meeting in the Russian Far East city of Vladivostok, held on the sidelines of an annual Eastern Economic Forum meeting, Abe and Battulga also affirmed their countries' close cooperation for an early solution to the issue of Japanese citizens kidnapped to North Korea decades ago.
Abe voiced his intention to support U.S.-North Korea dialogue, stressing the importance of realizing the complete, verifiable and irreversible dismantlement of all weapons of mass destruction held by North Korea, including nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles.
Battulga briefed Abe about the current status of relations between Mongolia and North Korea. Mongolia has diplomatic ties with North Korea while there are no such relations between Tokyo and Pyongyang.
This was the second Abe-Battulga meeting. Former "yokozuna" sumo grand champion Asashoryu, a Mongolian whose real name is Dolgorsuren Dagvadorj, joined the meeting as the president's special envoy for cooperation with Japan. Jiji Press
