Japan opposes US interference in Israel-Palestine conflict

December 22, 2017

Tokyo- The Japanese government indicated on Friday that it does not support US interference in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

"Japan supports a two-state solution to the conflict and it should be settled through talks between the parties concerned," Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga told a press conference.

Based on this stance, Japan supported a UN General Assembly resolution rejecting US President Donald Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital, Suga said.

A total of 128 countries, including Japan, voted in favor of the resolution at an emergency General Assembly session in New York on Thursday.

Asked about the possible impact of the Japanese move on Tokyo's relations with Washington, Suga said only that Japan and the United States are constantly working together. Jiji Press
