Japan police to probe 50 election violation cases
April 7, 2019
Tokyo--Japanese police will fully investigate 50 cases of suspected election violations after voting closes in the first round of quadrennial unified local elections Sunday, according to the National Police Agency.
About 70 pct are bribery cases, the agency said, adding that a total of 100 people will be investigated.
Police across the country had issued 2,533 warnings as of Friday as they cracked down on election violators, down by 534 from four years ago. Eight people were arrested.
The decrease apparently reflected an increase in uncontested elections, an NPA official said. Jiji Press
