Japan Protests China Setting Up Buoys near Senkakus
October 3, 2018
Tokyo- Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshishide Suga said Wednesday that Japan has lodged a protest against China for setting up buoys in waters near the Japanese-administered Senkaku Islands in the southernmost prefecture of Okinawa.
At a press conference, Suga said that the government made a protest through diplomatic channels against China's actions on the Japanese side of the so-called Japan-China intermediate line near the islands, which are also claimed by China.
He said that it is "only natural" that Japan stresses its position on actions that are problematic in terms of the U.N. Convention on the Law of the Sea.
The islands in the East China Sea are known as Diaoyu in China. Jiji Press
