Japan rejects North Korea demand over ship collision
October 15, 2019
Tokyo--Japan rejected on Tuesday a request from North Korea for compensation and preventive measures over a collision earlier this month between a North Korean fishing boat and a Japanese Fisheries Agency patrol vessel.
The request was "absolutely unacceptable," Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said at a press conference.
"Japan again lodged a protest against North Korea through embassy channels in Beijing," Suga said.
The collision occurred on Oct. 7 in Japan's exclusive economic zone in the Sea of Japan.
On when Japan will release the video footage of the collision, Suga said relevant officials are currently considering the matter. Jiji Press
