Japan Responding to Citizen’s Reported Deportation from N. Korea
August 27, 2018
Tokyo- The Japanese government is doing its best to respond to North Korea's reported decision to deport a Japanese man detained in the country, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said Monday.
But the top government spokesman declined to discuss the circumstances in detail due to the nature of the matter.
When asked about the issue's possible impact on the problem of Japanese citizens abducted by Pyongyang decades ago, Suga said, "The fact remains that we'll work as hard as we can in order to resolve the series of issues involving North Korea in a comprehensive manner."
On Sunday, North Korea's official Korean Central News Agency reported that the communist state has decided on humanitarian grounds to deport the Japanese man, Tomoyuki Sugimoto, who had been detained for committing a legal violation. Jiji Press
