Japan sends rescue team to quake-hit Taiwan

Tokyo- The Japanese government sent a rescue team on Thursday to support search and rescue activities in eastern Taiwan hit by a deadly 6.4-magnitude earthquake late Tuesday.

The team includes experts from the National Police Agency and the Fire and Disaster Management Agency.

"We hope the team will be able to rescue as many as lives as possible," Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said at a press conference.

In a message to Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said that when Japan was hit by the March 2011 disaster, the country received warm support from people of Taiwan, a friend of Japan from long ago.

"We'll provide all necessary support as Taiwan faces the difficulty," he also said. Jiji Press
