Japan, Taiwan Hold Meeting of Local Assembly Members

Kaohsiung, Taiwan- Japanese and Taiwanese local assembly members held a meeting for interaction in the southern Taiwanese city of Kaohsiung on Saturday.
The annual meeting, the fourth of its kind, took place in Taiwan for the first time, drawing one of the biggest delegations of Japanese local assembly members to the region.
From Japan, some 320 members of a group of local assembly members for Japan-Taiwan friendship headed by Nagoya assembly member Kazuhide Fujita participated, while Taiwanese participants totaled some 120.
It was also attended by key Taiwanese officials including Premier Lai Ching-te.
In a speech, Lai expressed sympathy with those affected by the torrential rain that has hit central to southwestern Japan. He also asked for Japanese cooperation to help Taiwan join the revised Trans-Pacific Partnership free trade pact. Jiji Press
