Japan to Give 300-M.-Dollar Loans to Jordan over Syrian Refugees

Tokyo--Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said Tuesday that Japan will provide 300 million dollars in loans to Jordan to help reduce the Middle Eastern kingdom's burden of accepting Syrian refugees.

The Japanese financial support was agreed on at a meeting between Abe and Jordanian King Abdullah at the prime minister's office in Tokyo on the day.

"Jordan is an indispensable strategic partner for Japan in enhancing its Middle Eastern diplomacy," Abe said at a joint press conference after the meeting.

During the meeting, Abe praised Jordan for accepting many Syrian refugees while making every effort to combat terrorism and extremism and bring about peace in the region.

He also appreciated Amman for cooperating in freeing Japanese journalist Jumpei Yasuda from militant captivity in Syria.

The two leaders agreed to launch strategical dialogue between foreign ministers as well as talks between foreign and defense ministry officials. In addition, they confirmed the significance of the two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Jiji Press
