July 29, 2018
Tokyo- The Japanese government said Friday it will hold the Seventh Tokyo International Conference on African Development, or TICAD VII, in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture, south of Tokyo, on Aug. 28-30, 2019.
"Through both public and private efforts, we will powerfully back development led by Africa itself," Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga told a press conference.
Since 1993, Japan has hosted TICAD meetings jointly with the United Nations, the U.N. Development Program, the World Bank and the African Union Commission.
The last TICAD meeting, in Nairobi on Aug. 27-28, 2016, was the first to be held outside Japan. Jiji Press
