Japan to Host TPP Ministerial Talks on Jan. 19

Tokyo--Japanese economic revitalization minister Toshimitsu Motegi said Friday that the first meeting of a committee consisting of ministers from the 11 countries taking part in the Trans-Pacific Partnership free trade agreement will be held in Tokyo on Jan. 19.
"We hope to spread a strong message on the importance of free trade to the world," Motegi told a press conference.
At the meeting of the committee, to be the decision-making body of the TPP-11 after the agreement comes into force on Sunday, ministers will discuss operational policies and an expansion of the deal to other countries and regions.
Japan will chair the upcoming meeting and Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will deliver a speech. Jiji Press
