Japan to Invite Teachers from Gaza
September 26, 2018
New York- Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said Tuesday that Japan will invite teachers from the self-governing Palestinian territory of Gaza for a peace education program.
Beginning in early 2019, the project, designed to promote education that puts importance on peace even in a conflict zone, is part of Japan's contribution to the Middle East peace process.
"It goes without saying that for peace, efforts must be made on both sides. But hopefully this program of ours will impart a means of hope to the teachers from Gaza and the children in their care," Abe said in an address to the U.N. General Assembly in New York.
In the first such group, some 10 elementary and junior high school teachers from the Gaza Strip will be invited to Japan early next year to undertake a peace education training and visit the western city of Hiroshima, which suffered the 1945 U.S. atomic bombing. Jiji Press
