May 27, 2018
Tokyo- Japan's Finance Ministry said Friday that it will issue a silver coin to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the 1868 start of the country's Meiji era, which ended in 1912.
The front of the coin will depict a train station and people in the early Meiji era, based on a colored woodblock print by Edo-period ukiyo-e master Utagawa Hiroshige.
A total of 50,000 coins will be minted, each with a face value of 1,000 yen.
Japan Mint will sell the coins at a price of 9,000 yen each.
The back of the coin will feature a design of a dragon depicted in a gold coin used in the early Meiji era. Jiji Press
