Japan to Step Up Efforts to Uphold Free Trade System: Aso
December 28, 2018
Tokyo--Japan will step up efforts to uphold the free trade system as the country assumes the chairmanship of the Group of 20 nations next year, Finance Minister Taro Aso said Friday.
Efforts will be made to "maintain the free trade system, which post-World War II Japan has benefitted from the most," Aso said at a press conference.
He said that one of the focuses for next year's G-20 summit is on addressing global tax avoidance.
Japan aims to strengthen cooperation with its G-20 partners to craft an international digital taxation system to respond to the rise of information technology giants, he said. Jiji Press
