Japan to support LNG development
October 17, 2017
TOKYO- The Japanese government plans to support the development of infrastructure for liquefied natural gas consumption in other parts of Asia, informed sources said Monday.
Economy, Trade and Industry Minister Hiroshige Seko will unveil the plan at a meeting of LNG producer and consumer countries in Tokyo on Wednesday, the sources said.
Projects to develop LNG-related infrastructure, such as building thermal power plants and bases for carriers, are said to cost about one trillion yen in entire Asia.
The planned Japanese assistance for the infrastructure development is expected to be shown during a session of the so-called Japan-US economic dialogue in Washington on Monday, because it is also aimed at helping the United States boost exports of shale gas-derived LNG to Asian countries, the sources said.
