Japan Top Court Chief Justice Promotes IT in Civil Suits
June 20, 2018
Tokyo- -Naoto Otani, chief justice of Japan's Supreme Court, on Wednesday called for more active use of information technology in civil lawsuit procedures.
At a gathering of chief judges of high courts, district courts and family courts nationwide, Otani said the use of IT "should be promoted with a view to making the whole trials more appropriate and streamlined."
The remark came after a government-appointed panel of experts asked the top court in March to promote the use of IT in civil lawsuits, such as submitting petitions on the Internet and holding online meetings. Jiji Press
