Japan urges top Myanmar commander to address Rohingya issue

Naypyitaw, Myanmar- Visiting Japanese State Minister for Foreign Affairs Kazuyuki Nakane has told Myanmar's top military officer that it is necessary to punish those responsible for any human rights abuses against Rohingya people, a Muslim minority group in the Southeast Asian country.
At their meeting on Monday, Senior Gen. Min Aung Hlaing, commander-in-chief of Myanmar's Defense Services, vowed to take action under law, if necessary, while signaling readiness to accept Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh after screenings.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of a foreign ministers' session of the Asia-Europe Meeting forum. Jiji Press
