October 2, 2017
TOKYO- Japanese beef started to be served in Taiwan on Sunday, after Taiwan lifted an import ban that it introduced following an outbreak of bovine spongiform encephalopathy in Japan in September 2001.
In the first shipment in 16 years, 205 kilograms of beef from Miyazaki Prefecture, southwestern Japan, arrived in Taiwan on Thursday and have undergone customs procedures including quarantine inspection.
Mihan Honke, a Japanese restaurant in luxury Regent Taipei Hotel, received about 100 kilograms of the beef to serve it as sukiyaki and shabu hot pot dishes, as well as steaks. Jiji Press
