Japanese Empress Emerita undergoes cataract surgery on left eye

Tokyo--Japanese Empress Emerita Michiko underwent cataract surgery on her left eye at a Tokyo hospital on Sunday.
The operation was successful, and she returned to her residence at the Imperial Palace in Chiyoda Ward in the Japanese capital in the evening.
The Empress Emerita had the same surgery on her right eye on June 16. Conditions of her right eye have been good since the operation, officials of the Imperial Household Agency said.
On Sunday, Empress Emerita Michiko arrived at the hospital around 10:30 a.m. (1:30 a.m. GMT) and left the facility for home around 4:30 p.m. Jiji Press
