August 12, 2018
Hiroshima- Japanese Prince Hisahito, the only grandson of Emperor Akihito, on Friday made a private visit to Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park.
The 11-year-old prince and his mother, Princess Kiko, the wife of Prince Akishino, the second son of the Emperor, offered silent prayers before the cenotaph for atomic bomb victims.
They also looked around the Peace Memorial Museum for about an hour, where the prince earnestly viewed the display of damage from radiation and touched a glass bottle twisted by the heat of the atomic bomb.
On Monday, the city of Hiroshima, western Japan, marked the 73rd anniversary of the U.S. atomic bombing.
In December 2016, the prince visited a peace park in Nagasaki, another Japanese city devastated by a U.S. atomic bomb in 1945 in the closing days of World War II. Jiji Press
