Japanese Princess Ayako to Get 106.75 M. Yen in State Money

Tokyo- The Imperial House Economy Council decided on Thursday that 106.75 million yen in state money will be given to Princess Ayako, 28, who is set to marry this month and lose her Imperial Family status.

The amount represents the upper limit defined by law.

The decision was made at the council's meeting held at the Imperial Household Agency, which was presided over by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. The meeting was attended by seven others, including Shinichiro Yamamoto, head of the agency, and the chiefs and deputy chiefs of both chambers of the Diet, the country's parliament.

The Imperial House Economy Law spells out that the one-off allowances be used to maintain the recipient's dignity as a person who was once a member of the Imperial Family.

The payment to Princess Ayako will be made soon after her wedding.

Princess Ayako is the third daughter of the late Prince Takamado, a cousin of Emperor Akihito, and Princess Hisako.

The wedding for Princess Ayako and her fiance, Kei Moriya, a 32-year-old corporate employee, is set to take place at Meiji Jingu, a Shinto shrine in Tokyo's Shibuya Ward, on Oct. 29.

The government paid the maximum one-off allowances of 152.5 million yen to former Princess Sayako, now Sayako Kuroda, the eldest daughter of Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko, when she got married in 2005.

Noriko Senge, formerly Princess Noriko, the second daughter of Prince Takamado and Princess Hisako, received the upper limit of 106.75 million yen when she married in 2014.

The Imperial House Law stipulates that a woman in the Imperial Family lose her status of a member of the family if she marries a person outside the family. Jiji Press
