Japan’s Crown Prince, Princess Visit Flood-Hit Kyushu City
September 26, 2018
Asakura, Fukuoka Pref.- Japan's Crown Prince Naruhito and Crown Princess Masako on Wednesday visited a city hit hard by torrential rain that damaged northern parts of the Kyushu southwestern Japan region in July last year.
The couple arrived around 11 a.m. (2 a.m. GMT) at Hayashida Danchi, a makeshift housing complex in the city of Asakura, Fukuoka Prefecture.
The Crown Prince asked a couple whose house was destroyed if their family members are fine.
"You had a tough time. Please take care of yourselves," the Crown Princess said to the couple.
The downpour caused flooding and landslides in Fukuoka and neighboring Oita Prefecture.
In Fukuoka, 37 people were killed in the disaster, mainly in Asakura and the neighboring village of Toho, with two people still missing. Jiji Press
