Japan’s Emperor Suffers Dizziness from Cerebral Anemia

July 2, 2018

Tokyo- Japanese Emperor Akihito has been diagnosed with dizziness and nausea caused by cerebral anemia, the Imperial Household Agency said Monday.

It is not necessary to send the Emperor to hospital by ambulance, but he needs to be monitored as he rests at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo, the agency said.

According to the agency, the Emperor, who had been asleep at the palace, told Empress Michiko around 4 a.m. Monday (7 p.m. Sunday GMT) that he suddenly felt unwell.

As the Emperor was sweating heavily, the Empress immediately sent for a court physician.

The Emperor was diagnosed with cerebral anemia through an examination.

The agency said he has no fever and is in no need of an emergency treatment.

On Monday morning, the Emperor and the Empress were scheduled to meet with Princess Ayako, a daughter of the Emperor's late cousin, Prince Takamado, to hear about her planned engagement.

The Empress received a report of the engagement from the princess, without the presence of the Emperor.

The agency put off all of his remaining official duties set for the day. As for the duties scheduled for Tuesday and later, the agency will decide by checking his health condition. Jiji Press
