Japan’s Kono Seeks UNSC Solidarity on N. Korea Sanctions
September 28, 2018
New York- Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono called for U.N. Security Council member countries Thursday to get united in fully implementing the council's sanctions resolutions against North Korea.
In his speech at a Security Council ministerial meeting in New York, Kono demanded that Pyongyang take necessary steps to achieve "complete, verifiable and irreversible" denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, while hailing diplomatic efforts for the denuclearization including the first-ever U.S.-North Korea summit and three inter-Korean summits this year.
The Japanese foreign minister also requested the council members to make all-out efforts to prevent North Korea from dodging the sanctions with illegal methods, such as smuggling of embargoed goods in the high seas. Jiji Press
