Tokyo--Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi said Friday he will visit New York from Sunday to Sept. 27 to attend meetings on the sidelines of a U.N. General Assembly session.
At a press conference, Motegi said he plans to attend a meeting on U.N. Security Council reform and a gathering of foreign ministers from the Group of Seven industrialized nations.
He is also considering holding bilateral talks with his counterparts from the United States, Russia, Iran and India.
"I'd like to thoroughly exchange opinions on issues facing the international community, such as North Korea and the Middle East," he said.
Motegi, who previously served as economic and fiscal policy minister, became foreign minister in last week's cabinet reshuffle. Jiji Press
