Kobe Steel Chief may quit over data scandal

Tokyo- Kobe Steel Ltd. Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Hiroya Kawasaki is considering stepping down to take responsibility for a product data manipulation scandal involving the Japanese company, informed sources said Sunday.
On Tuesday, Kobe Steel plans to release an external investigation committee's final report on the scandal.
The company is also expected to unveil preventive measures and clarify the management's responsibility for the scandal.
In October, Kobe Steel said it had shipped aluminum and copper products with inspection data manipulated to make the products look as if they met specifications promised to customers. Jiji Press
