Kono Congratulates Congo on Nobel Peace Prize

Tokyo- Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono congratulated his Congolese counterpart, Leonard She Okitundu, on Saturday on the selection of Denis Mukwege, a physician from the Democratic Republic of Congo, as a recipient of the 2018 Nobel Peace Prize.
Kono and Okitundu held talks in Tokyo on the sidelines of a two-day ministerial meeting of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development that started the same day.
Mukwege was recognized for helping the victims of sexual violence in wartime.
Kono said he wants to express his respect for Congo's serious efforts to tackle the issue, which are producing successful results.
