Kono Sees Cambodia Election as Regrettable
August 5, 2018
Singapore- Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono said Saturday the results of the election of the lower chamber of Cambodia's parliament last month were regrettable.
At a meeting with his Cambodian counterpart, Prak Sokhon, in Singapore on the sidelines of a series of regional ministerial conferences, Kono said the election produced a regrettable outcome as there were many invalid votes.
Kono said he hopes that Cambodia will promote the process toward democracy and push ahead with national development strongly.
Prak Sokhon explained Cambodia's position in principle, a Japanese official said. The minister is believed to have defended the election as legitimate.
