Kono to visit Philippines from Sunday
August 4, 2017
TOKYO- New Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono said Friday he will visit Manila from Sunday to Tuesday to attend meetings with his counterparts from countries related to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
It will be his first overseas trip since he took office on Thursday.
Kono hopes to discuss the issue of North Korea's continuing nuclear and missile development and help increase pressure from the international community.
Kono is now adjusting his schedule to meet with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and their South Korean counterpart, Kang Kyung-wha, individually during his stay in the Philippines' capital. Jiji Press
