Machines to Work More Than Humans by 2025: WEF
September 18, 2018
Paris- Machines will do more than half of all workplace tasks by 2025 as a result of technological innovations linked to artificial intelligence and robots, the World Economic Forum said Monday.
A WEF report said that 29 pct of all tasks are performed by machines as of 2018, with the proportion estimated to rise to 42 pct in 2022 and 52 pct in 2025.
"The rapid evolution of machines and algorithms in the workplace could create 133 million new roles in place of 75 million that will be displaced between now and 2022," according to the report.
Among the roles set to experience increasing demand across all industries are "data analysts and scientists, software and applications developers, and e-commerce and social media specialists, all of which (are) roles that are significantly based on or enhanced by technology," the report stated.
"Jobs expected to become redundant include routine-based white-collar roles," such as data entry, accounting and payroll clerks, it added.
"Distinctly human skills, such as creativity, critical thinking and persuasion, are among the competences that will be sharply increasing in importance," the WEF said, encouraging companies to enhance employee education. Jiji Press
