More body parts likely from missing woman found in Japan

Kobe- Additional body parts likely belonging to a missing Japanese woman have been found in western Japan after a search based on information provided by an U.S. citizen arrested for alleged confinement of the woman, police sources said Monday.

A torso and pairs of arms and legs were found on Sunday, after the suspect, Bayraktar Yevgeniy Vasilievich, 26, told local police that he had abandoned the body of a woman who had stayed with him, investigative sources said.

The Hyogo prefectural police department plans to serve a fresh arrest warrant to the man on suspicion of corpse abandonment, according to the sources.

The police have been questioning the suspect about the woman, believed to be a 27-year-old company employee from Sanda in the western Japan prefecture of Hyogo who went missing this month.

An autopsy has been performed on the body parts to identify the victim and the cause of the death.

The decapitated head of a woman was found on Saturday at a "minpaku" private lodging facility rented by the suspect in the city of Osaka, western Japan. The newly found body parts and the head appear to belong to the same individual, the sources said.

The torso and arms were discovered in mountains in the town of Shimamoto in Osaka Prefecture, while the legs were found in a mountainous area in the city of Kyoto. All of the body parts were found without clothing and had no notable wounds apart from surface cuts, the sources said.

The police believe that the suspect, who entered Japan in January, and the missing woman on Feb. 16 together went in an Osaka condominium building that includes a facility rented out for lodging. A surveillance camera recording showed that a person believed to be the American man left the building with a large bag, after the woman went missing. Jiji Press
