Narita Airport passengers hit record high in 1st half
July 25, 2019
Tokyo-The number of flight passengers using Narita International Airport near Tokyo in January-June rose 5 pct from a year before to 21,673,022, hitting a record high for the sixth straight first-half period, its operator said Thursday.
The total number of takeoffs and landings at the airport in Chiba Prefecture gained 4 pct to 129,596, marking a record high for the fourth consecutive first-half period, Narita International Airport Corp. said.
The increases came as airlines, mainly low-cost carriers, launched or added flights at the airport amid strong demand for travel to Japan.
International cargo volume dropped 12 pct to 983,634 tons, affected by U.S.-China trade tensions. Fuel supplies to aircraft grew 2 pct to 2,249,506 kiloliters. Jiji Press
