Narita Airport to expand budget airline terminal
April 27, 2018
Narita, Chiba Pref.- Narita International Airport near Tokyo plans to double the size of its terminal for budget airlines by the end of fiscal 2021 to address congestion, its operator said Thursday.
The total number of passengers who used the terminal in fiscal 2017, which ended last month, stood at 7.64 million, surpassing its annual capacity of 7.5 million.
The expansion plan calls for doubling the capacity to 15 million by taking steps, including doubling the total floor space from the current 60,000 square meters, boosting check-in functions and building more boarding gates, Narita International Airport Corp. said.
The cost has yet to be determined, according to the company.
The terminal currently serves five airlines, including Jetstar Japan, the largest budget carrier in Japan, Vanilla Air and Chinese-affiliated Spring Airlines Japan. Jiji Press
