Narita Airport to Expand Landing Fee Discount Program
September 28, 2018
Narita, Chiba Pref.- Narita International Airport in Chiba Prefecture, east of Tokyo, will expand its landing fee discount program to help enlarge its airline route network, its operator said Thursday.
The expanded discount program will be in place for three years from April 2019, a period that includes when Tokyo hosts the Olympics and Paralympics in 2020.
For airlines new to the airport, the period of the landing fee discount will be extended from two years to three years.
The landing fee will be waived for new international flights leaving the airport between 6 a.m. and 8:59 a.m. and new domestic flights taking off between 6 a.m. and 7:59 a.m.
Greater discounts will also be offered to airlines that already use the airport and plan to increase the number of their flights.
The expanded discounts are expected to be worth around one billion yen every year.
"We would like to use (the expanded discount program) as a trump card for expanding flights," Makoto Natsume, president and chief executive officer at Narita International Airport Corp., said at a press conference. Jiji Press
