Narita Passenger Traffic Up 6.1 Pct during Golden Week

Narita, Chiba Pref.- Passenger traffic at Narita International Airport near Tokyo during Japan's Golden Week holiday period rose 6.1 pct from a year earlier to 867,670, preliminary immigration data showed Friday.
Between April 27 and Sunday, Japanese passengers numbered 410,350, up 2.2 pct, according to the data, provided by the Narita Airport District Immigration Office of the Tokyo Regional Immigration Bureau.
The number of foreigners, mainly from China and Taiwan, soared 9.9 pct to 457,320, surpassing that of Japanese passengers for the second consecutive year.
The United States, including Hawaii and Guam, was the most popular destination for outgoing passengers. China, excluding Hong Kong and Macau, came second, followed by South Korea, Taiwan and Hong Kong.
